Beschreibung: An 18th-century porcelain plate featuring the Russian state emblem "Two-Headed Eagle". This unique piece was custom-made in China for the Russian imperial court at a time when Russia did not yet have its own porcelain production. Porcelain was then imported from China, which was a leader in the quality and manufacture of porcelain products. The fashion for using porcelain in Russia was introduced by Peter I, who, after visiting the Prussian king in Oranienburg in 1712, where he saw rooms furnished in the "Chinese style," had a Chinese hall built in Monplaisir and began the first purchases of porcelain. This trend was quickly adopted by the Russian aristocracy, leading to extensive purchases of porcelain from abroad. The plate is entirely handmade and painted with enamel. In the center is depicted the state emblem of the Russian Empire – a golden two-headed eagle with raised wings, crowned with two smaller crowns, above which is one larger one, connected by a ribbon. The eagle holds a scepter in its right claw and an orb in its left. On the eagle's chest is depicted Saint George piercing a dragon with a spear. This unique piece of porcelain is an excellent example of 18th-century Chinese export art and represents a significant artifact of Russian imperial history.
