Beschreibung: This decorative faience plate from the renowned French manufactory Sarreguemines completes a comprehensive monarchical series, this piece bearing a portrait of the French King Francis II. The center of the plate, set against a delicate salmon-pink background, displays a detailed portrait of the young monarch in Renaissance attire with a characteristic ruff and a feathered beret, bordered by the Latin inscription 'FRANCISCVS • II • DEI • GRATIA • FRANCORVM • REX • CHRISTIANISSIMUS • 1559 - 1560'. The wide rim is richly decorated with knightly motifs, weapons, banners, and heraldic lilies, consistent with the previous pieces. The reverse side bears an underglaze Sarreguemines inscription mark, impressed marks, a fine network of craquelure in the glaze, and is equipped with its original antique metal mounting hanger (known as a 'spider') for secure wall mounting.
