Beschreibung: This historical tool made of forged steel represents a specific combined outside and inside caliper, which served for precise transfer of both external and internal dimensions during turning or blacksmithing work. The unique crossed construction bears clearly legible embossings of the British manufacturer "CARR / LONDON" near the central pivot and a circular stamp "PATENT APPLIED FOR" indicating a patent application. While one side of the arms widely opens into an arc for measuring external diameters of round stock, the other side with straight arms and small points served for measuring internal holes and cavities. The tool has retained an authentic dark patina with slight surface corrosion and traces of long-term use, while the mechanical pivot is still firm and fully functional.
