Beschreibung: The cast iron relief "Willow from K. J. Erben's Kytice" by Stanislav Sucharda (1866–1916) represents the work of a significant Czech sculptor and medalist, a key representative of Czech Art Nouveau and co-founder of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists. The theme draws from Erben's poem Kytice (A Bouquet of Folk Tales), in which the soul of a deceased mother hides in a willow growing above her grave, and its wood serves as a cradle for her orphaned child. Sucharda gave the poem an artistic form: a female figure merges with the willow branches in a melancholic composition that captures the symbolist atmosphere of Erben's work. The work was created in 1899 as a membership premium for the prestigious art association Umělecká beseda. The relief is made of cast iron with its original dark Art Nouveau patina. It is signed in relief on the bottom right "SUCHARDA". At the bottom, the casting bears the original inscription "UMĚLECKÁ BESEDA SVÝM ČLENŮM NA ROK 1899" (Artistic Society to its Members for the Year 1899). The dimensions of the relief are approximately 60 × 16.5 cm. The framing includes the original massive wooden frame with a delicate inner gilded trim, which highlights the dark metal of the sculpture.
