Beschreibung: This suitcase represents a handcrafted piece of luggage for long-distance travel from the first half of the 20th century. Its construction consists of a sturdy wooden or thick cardboard frame, covered with coarse, highly durable canvas in an olive green/khaki color. The corners, edges, and stressed areas are reinforced with dark brown natural leather, featuring robust stitching and steel rivets, ensuring a long lifespan. The suitcase is equipped with two circumferential, hand-stitched leather tightening straps with metal buckles, which relieved pressure on the main lock when fully loaded. For handling, there are two sturdy leather handles – one main handle on the front and a secondary one on top. The suitcase is fitted with French brass hardware. The main lock has a solid brass body with a hinged dust cover. The lock bears the inscription 'DÉPOSÉ', indicating a protected industrial design, and an embossed number '44', referring to the universal standardized key of that era. The hinges and clasps are made of patinated brass and bear the embossed official logo of the prominent French metal foundry H.B. with a graphic symbol of a key inside an oval. The hardware also features the historical French mark 'BREVETÉ S.G.D.G.' (Breveté Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement), confirming patent registration in France before 1968. Given the superior internal arrangement and French hardware, this was a product for more discerning clientele. The interior of the suitcase is fully equipped for the safe transport of formal wear. It includes a removable fabric tray covered with light-colored textile with a distinctive decorative red leather trim, designed to separate wrinkle-free clothing (shirts, dresses). An additional central pocket for small items with a red flap is located on the hinged compartment. At the bottom of the suitcase are two original textile straps with metal buckles for securing heavier garments. This luggage is suitable for collectors of historical travel items or as an interior accessory.
