Beschreibung: Portrait photograph of a French soldier from elite colonial units, depicting him in the traditional uniform of Zouaves or Algerian/Tunisian riflemen. The uniform includes wide pleated trousers (sérouel), a short embroidered jacket (bolero jacket), and a traditional head covering (chéchia/fez). In the lower right corner of the photograph is the LEFEVRE studio signature with the date 1919. This commemorative installation from the WWI period is set in a period cascade frame with a passe-partout and contains two genuine French military decorations. On the left side is the Médaille Militaire (Military Medal), one of the highest French military awards, established in 1852 by Napoleon III. This decoration was awarded to non-commissioned officers and enlisted men for exceptional bravery in combat or for being wounded. The medal consists of a silver cogwheel star or wreath with a blue enamel band bearing the inscription “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE 1870”, surmounted by a bronze suspension in the form of armor and cannons. The ribbon of the decoration is yellow with green edges. On the right side of the installation is the Croix de Guerre 1914–1918 (War Cross), the War Cross for merit in the First World War, adopted in 1915. A silver star (Étoile) is attached to the ribbon of the cross, indicating a commendation of the soldier in an army order at divisional level. A bronze star would indicate a commendation at regimental or battalion level. The ensemble is entirely original, in period passe-partout and a glazed frame. The medals are genuine, made of silver and bronze, and the ribbons show natural patina. Photographic memorials (Tableau d'Honneur) of French WWI veterans, which combine a portrait of the recipient with his specific medal awards, especially in a Zouave uniform, represent a sought-after military item with high collector's value.
