Beschreibung: This print depicts a French heavy cavalryman – a gendarme – in full armor. The scene is dated to the period between 1495 and 1545. The original for this engraving was likely P. Philippoteaux, a French draftsman and illustrator, whose name is visible below the motif. The engraving features the text "Gendarmerie. 1495 à 1545" at the bottom, which specifies the subject and time period. Below that is the text "DEHOY-JARDIN". The release of this engraving was associated with historical publications about the French army. The artwork is set in a green passe-partout and framed in a simple wooden frame. The surface of the print shows signs of paper aging, including slight yellowing and minor stains, which are consistent with the character of historical prints. The frame is wooden, with a simple profile. This print represents a historical document and a decorative element with a military theme.
