Description: Lithograph depicting the design for a diploma of the Chamber of Commerce and Crafts in Prague. The design was created by Vojtěch Hynais (1854 - 1925), a prominent Czech painter and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Vojtěch Hynais was born in Vienna and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under professors Wurzinger, Eisenmenger, and Feuerbach, where he received a scholarship to Rome. During his stay in Italy, he traveled and created frescoes of Czech saints in the Czech hospice in Rome. He worked in Paris for a long time, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts. He became famous especially for creating the curtain of the National Theatre and worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His design for this diploma is characterized by classicizing elements, with architectural columns, allegorical figures, and a central plaque. The artist's signature is located in the bottom right: “V. Hynais”. On the central plaque is the text: “DIPLOMA OF HONOR AWARDED MCMXIX”. Below it is the inscription: “CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND CRAFTS IN PRAGUE” and further details about the recipient: “TO MR. ING. DR. H.C. KAREL NOVÁK, PROFESSOR OF THE TECHNICAL MANUFACTURING PLANT IN PRAGUE FOR AN OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO SCIENTIFIC ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND ITS TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT. IN PRAGUE ON APRIL 22, 1937.” In the bottom left corner are the Roman numerals “DXXXIX.”. The graphic is framed in a wooden gilt frame. Stains and one minor damage are visible on the graphic in the right part. The frame shows surface abrasions and patina. The glass is undamaged.
