Description: The work presents a historical reproduction of a religious scene, depicting Jesus Christ praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. The figure of Christ with a halo around his head is captured kneeling and looking up to heaven, while in the background, silhouettes of sleeping disciples and the distant architecture of Jerusalem are visible under a dramatically overcast sky. This is a high-quality period photographic reproduction of a painted original (probably after Heinrich Hofmann), which was very popular for home and ecclesiastical purposes during that era. In the lower part, on a black passe-partout, there is a prominent gold embossed logo "Photographische Gesellschaft Berlin", which was one of the most important German companies for artistic reproduction, founded in 1862. This marking confirms the origin of the work from a renowned Berlin workshop that specialized in disseminating artworks using advanced photographic techniques of the time. The photograph is rendered in sepia tone on a paper backing. The overall condition corresponds to its age; several minor mechanical damages (abrasions in the paper) are visible on the surface, and the colors are naturally yellowed. The work is framed in its original massive wooden frame with a distinct wood grain, complemented by an inner gold strip with a pearl-bead decor and a black passe-partout. The entire framing is covered by the original glass.
