Description: A hand-knotted wool carpet with a Tree of Life and birds motif. The compositional scheme displays the iconic Tree of Life motif, complemented by figural staffage of exotic birds, including peacocks and small songbirds. The iconography draws from Persian symbolism of paradise gardens, immortality, and abundance. The arrangement of arches in the upper part of the field, known as a prayer niche or mihrab, refers to classic patterns from urban and semi-nomadic workshops of the Persian and Transcaucasian circle. A symmetrically branched tree grows from a decorative vase at the bottom of the carpet, its crown spreading across the entire main field. The branches are adorned with colorful flowers, fruits, and buds. In the lower part, on either side of the trunk, stand a pair of peacocks with blue plumage. In the upper levels of the branches, pairs of colorful long-tailed birds are symmetrically placed. The colored background is in tones of muted old rose, lilac, and mauve. Against this background, dark blue, orange, brick, and white details of the motifs contrast. The main wide border on a light background contains a stylized continuous motif of intertwined grapevines with small animal and plant elements that frame the main field.
