Description: The item depicts an atmospheric rural landscape, characteristic of the Belgian Borinage region or the Walloon countryside. The scene includes a road, an old building with a thatched or shingled roof, and a sturdy tree, all under a dramatic, windy sky. The work is executed using etching and aquatint techniques on handmade paper. It features detailed cross-hatching and chiaroscuro, creating a somber, early evening atmosphere through deep plate toning. The author is Victor Dieu (1873 Quaregnon – 1954 Mons), a prominent Belgian painter, graphic artist, and professor of drawing at the Academy in Mons. Victor Dieu won the prestigious Belgian Prix de Rome in printmaking in 1901 and is recognized as one of the masters of etching and engraving of the so-called Mons School (École montoise). In the lower right, below the motif, there is a graphite signature V. DIEU. In the lower left, the print is marked EPREUVE D'ARTISTE II (Artist's Proof / Artist's Test II), indicating an exclusive, low-edition artist's print directly from the graphic artist's workshop. The work dates from the first half of the 20th century (approximately 1910–1930). The graphic print is framed in its original simple profiled dark brown frame with a passe-partout. The paper of the work is yellowed, and the passe-partout shows yellowing with minor spots.
