Beschreibung: This rare collectible curiosity from the first half of the 20th century is a masterful example of period salon humor, disguised as an authentic packaging for luxury French mustard from the Moutarde du Vert-Pré brand. The item uses an original glass container with a well-preserved paper label and a metal lid, beneath which, instead of food, a strong steel spring covered in yellow satin is hidden. Upon unscrewing the lid, the spring rapidly expands and pops out, simulating a snake attack – this classic prank mechanism remains fully functional even after a hundred years. Given the excellent condition of both the textile and the glass, this is a unique piece suitable for a cabinet of curiosities, collections of historical toys, or retro props, distinguished from ordinary period packaging by its unique mechanical function and historical value.
