Description: Traditional Gaucho game 'Taba' used in Argentina and Uruguay. It consists of a cow's astragalus bone fitted with metal plates. In the game, the bone is thrown to the ground, and the winner of the throw is determined by which side lands face down. The game was very popular among South American gauchos as early as the 19th century and was often played for stakes. One plate bears the inscription 'El Campechano'. An interesting ethnographic and collector's item. This typical Gaucho game was introduced by the Spanish. It involves throwing a cow's astragalus bone from a certain distance. If the bone lands smooth side down, it's 'luck' and the thrower wins; if it lands with the hole facing up, it's 'bottom' and the opponent wins. If it lands on its side, the throw is repeated.
