Description: This remarkable vase represents a fascinating example of so-called trench art from the First World War period, when used military materials were transformed into decorative household items. The body, with its conical shape and characteristically wavy, flared upper rim, is made from a brass artillery shell casing, which has been artistically darkened and covered with detailed relief Art Nouveau decor in the form of grapevines, whose intertwined stems, leaves, and clusters elegantly embrace the vessel's body. Absolutely crucial information about the item's origin is revealed on its underside with complete and perfectly legible military stamping from the famous Austrian metalworking manufactory BERNDORF, dated 1916, serial number 235, and weapon specification 8cm M5, which refers to the Austro-Hungarian field gun model 1905. The vase is in excellent authentic condition with its original dark patina and no significant deformations, making it an exceptionally valuable collector's item connecting military history with artistic craftsmanship.
