Description: An unusual travel or salon cave à liqueur – a liqueur set hidden in a case designed as a stack of old books. Upon opening the top 'book', two glass bottles with spherical stoppers and four small liqueur glasses appear, all decorated with a delicate gold line. The case is covered in leather and richly adorned with gilded blind-stamped decoration, with individual spines imitating real old volumes. This type of secret bar set is known in France as a cave à liqueur en trompe-l’œil and was produced especially during the 19th century. Condition as per photos.
