Description: The painting by E. MENTSCHEL depicts a vast landscape with a lake surrounded by hills and distant mountains. On the horizon, a setting or rising sun is visible, its reflection shimmering on the water's surface. A small sailboat glides in the distance on the lake. The right foreground consists of a bank with a path where a solitary figure stands. Next to the path is a country estate surrounded by tall cypresses and trees with autumnal foliage. The left side of the coastline is lined by a dense strip of conifers, which transitions into a grassy meadow in the foreground. The signature E. MENTSCHEL is located in the lower left corner of the work. Dated to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the painting reflects the European landscape tradition of this period and evokes a peaceful, idyllic atmosphere. E. Mentschel, whose real name was Emil Menčl, was a significant and prolific landscape painter who worked primarily in the Děčín region. Before World War II, he signed his works as Mentschel and was renowned for his paintings of local architecture, villas, mountain scenery, and floral still lifes. The frame shows signs of wear, including scuffs and local losses of surface finish. On the reverse side of the frame, there is a sticker with the number 91507.
