Description: Portrait of a woman in a scarf in profile, executed using the hand embroidery technique on silk, known as needle painting. The needle painting technique is characterized by extraordinary delicacy and the ability to faithfully imitate shaded drawings, which gives the work optical depth and detailed elaboration. The work is signed in the lower left corner with the text AUGUSTE HOFBAUER and dated 1913. The depiction of the woman in profile, with curly hair and a scarf, is precisely embroidered and demonstrates mastery in using the needle as a brush. The embroidery is set in a wooden frame with a dark red finish. The surface of the frame shows minor abrasions on the edges. The back of the frame is fitted with the original paper backing, which is discolored and slightly damaged due to age.
