Description: A hand-woven tapestry featuring a stylized tree of life and birds motif, executed in contrasting colors on a dark background. The lower part bears an embroidered signature in Cyrillic: 'Р. Лисовский'. Authorship is attributed to the Ukrainian graphic artist and illustrator Robert Lisovskij (1893–1982) – a significant figure of the interwar and post-war Ukrainian art scene. Lisovskij studied in Kyiv under leading representatives of Ukrainian modernism, Mykhailo Boichuk and Georgii Narbut. In the 1920s and 1930s, he also worked in Prague, where he became a professor of graphic arts at the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts. In exile, he continued his artistic work – from illustrations, graphic design, and ex-libris to designs for tapestries and home textiles. He is also known as the author of the emblem of the Ukrainian organization Plast and a designer of book covers and postage stamps. This tapestry likely dates from the 1960s–1980s, when Lisovskij worked in Western Europe (London, Geneva) and created decorative works for cultural centers of the Ukrainian emigration.
