Description: The artwork presents a realistically conceived portrait of an older woman, whose face, with deep wrinkles and distinctive physiognomy, is captured in semi-profile. The figure is clad in a dark robe and her head is covered by a headscarf, which, in the context of the accompanying inscription near the signature, points to an oriental theme. The oil on canvas painting technique utilizes visible brushstrokes to express the texture of both skin and fabric, while the background remains in neutral grey-green tones. The artist's signature 'M. Pothier' is located in the lower left corner and is rendered in a rich red color. Directly below the artist's name is the French title of the motif 'Femme Bédouine' (Bedouin Woman) and the location with dating 'Sidon - 1927'. These details confirm that the work was created in the first third of the 20th century in the historical city of Sidon, in present-day Lebanon. On the reverse side of the painting, there is a preserved historical red label with the text: 'COULEURS VERNIS ET VERRES A VITRES – E. DEMAY – 2, RUE ROYALE, 2 – ORLEANS – COULEURS FINES'. This label identifies a seller of artist's supplies from the French city of Orléans, suggesting that the artist used French materials or that the work was framed in France. The painting is in well-preserved condition, set in its original wooden frame with a gold inner molding.
