Description: This masterful colored aquatint with etching presents a representative example of the work of the renowned French landscape painter Ferdinand Luigini, one of the most important representatives of the Parisian graphic school of the early 20th century. The scene captures the artist's typical atmospheric composition of a sunken country road, traversed by a horse-drawn cart. The scene is sensitively framed by lines of birch trees, whose detailed bark texture contrasts with the soft, almost watercolor rendering of the sky and background. Luigini masterfully uses the aquatint technique to capture the specific diffused light, which gives the work a melancholic touch and extraordinary spatial depth. The work is marked in the lower right corner with the artist's authentic pencil signature. The uniqueness of this particular sheet is underlined by the inscription "Épreuve d'artiste" (abbreviation E.A.) in the lower left, confirming that it is a rare artist's proof outside the regular numbered edition, originally intended for the master himself. The authenticity of the period print from around 1910 is further confirmed by a clear blind stamp of the publisher (probably Georges Petit, Paris) impressed in the paper below the artist's inscription. The print is preserved in authentic original condition with natural period patina, which corresponds to its age and underlines the historical character of the work. The sheet is framed in a period wooden frame in brown tones, which aesthetically complements the earthy color palette of the etching itself. This work represents a sought-after collector's item for lovers of quality French art and the peak era of European colored etching.
