Description: A color aquatint combined with etching depicts a romantic corner of an old town with a watercourse (mill race) and a Baroque tower in the background. This is an original intaglio print, where the plate marks (bevel) are clearly visible on the edges. The technique is executed to a very high standard; the color tones appear soft and perfectly imitate watercolor painting, which is typical for a well-mastered aquatint. The work is signed in pencil on the right below the plate, with the characteristic handwriting: LAMAISON. The author is the French painter and premier graphic artist Jean Lamaison, active in the first half of the 20th century. Lamaison was a renowned master of color etchings and aquatints, specializing in poetic vedutas of old French and European cities, the banks of the Seine, old bridges, and historical nooks. His style is unmistakable due to a warm, sepia-ochre color palette with subtle bluish or greenish shadows. The graphic is set in a period, tastefully carved wooden frame with a passe-partout. The bottom strip bears a delicate decor that harmonizes with the motif of old architecture.
