Description: The etching captures a historical urban veduta of the French city of Auxerre, specifically the Tour de l'Horloge and Porte de l'Horloge from 1483. The depiction includes detailed architecture of the late Gothic clock tower and gate, which were built on the foundations of the original Roman fortifications. The scene is complemented by a street with period architecture and figural staffage, adding vibrancy to the graphic. This is an etching (graphic print) from the first half of the 20th century. In the printing plate, at the bottom center, there is the inscription: “AUXERRE TOUR ET PORTE DE L'HORLOGE DE 1483”, which translates to Auxerre – Clock Tower and Gate from 1483. The graphic print is mounted in a wooden frame with a passe-partout. The paper of the graphic print shows patina and minor stains. The frame is intact. On the back of the work, there is a framing workshop label with the text: “TOUT L'ENCADREMENT J. THOUZEAU 2 RUE NICOLAS MAURE AUXERRE”. This label identifies the firm J. Thouzeau, located at Rue Nicolas Maure in Auxerre, which specializes in picture framing.
