Description: An oil still life with fruit and jugs, authored by the Czech painter and graphic artist Stanislav Gustav Maran, often referred to as Gustav S. Maran. The work is executed in oil on canvas. The signature "S.G. MARAN" is located in the lower right in red color. The composition depicts grapes, apples, and pears along with two decorative jugs and a glass bowl, all arranged on drapery. The dark background emphasizes the play of light and shadow on individual objects, which is characteristic of the artist's approach. Stanislav Gustav Maran (1886–1983) was born in Brno, studied and worked primarily in Prague. He devoted himself to still lifes, landscape painting, and graphic prints, especially etchings with motifs of old Prague. His style follows traditional academic painting, characterized by detailed elaboration, masterful work with light and shadow, and a classical color palette. The creation of the work can be placed in the period of his active work in the 20th century. The canvas surface is intact. The painting is framed in a wooden frame with a gilded inner profile and silvered ornamental decoration. The frame shows minor scuffs.
