Description: This oil painting on canvas captures a panoramic view of the city of Benešov from a southwestern perspective. The 1928 veduta opens a view over the undulating Central Bohemian landscape with a field of ripening grain in the foreground. The work precisely depicts the urban structure of the city, where above the horizon rises the silhouette of the Church of St. Nicholas in Karlov with its tall dark tower, complemented by historical buildings, industrial chimneys of the then-factories, and surrounding greenery. The author is Karel D. Bálek, a Benešov personality of the interwar period, a teacher and director of the boys' burgher school. Bálek dedicated himself to regional painting with a keen eye for detail and an informed painterly hand. His work is valued for its documentary and topographical significance, as it bears witness to the transformations of the Benešov region during the First Republic era. The canvas, measuring 105 x 75 cm, is signed "K. D. BALEK 1928" in the lower right corner. The work is framed in its original dark profiled frame with a light passe-partout. Given its format and regional motif, it represents a collector's opportunity for local patriots and lovers of First Republic art.
