Description: Studio portrait of a woman from the early 20th century, created in the Belgian city of Mons. The woman is depicted in period Edwardian fashion, with her hair styled into a Pompadour bun, a high lace collar, and an embroidered blouse. This is a silver gelatin print, likely hand-retouched with charcoal or pastel to achieve the appearance of a classical painting. In the lower left corner of the portrait is the artist's signature "Ch. Galladé / Mons 1908", indicating the year of creation as 1908. The portrait is set in its original gilded carved stucco frame with a multi-layered passe-partout. Minor stains and signs of oxidation are visible on the print itself. The frame shows minor abrasions and some loss of gilding in places. On the back protective layer, the original glued studio label is preserved with the text: "Photographie Artistique & Industrielle CHARLES GALLADE MONS. 29. Grand'Rue, 29 MONS". The studio name "Photographie Artistique & Industrielle" translates to Artistic and Industrial Photography. Charles Galladé was an active portrait and commercial photographer in Mons at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, whose studio was located at Grand'Rue 29.
