Description: This tabletop press dates from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its construction includes a frame and base made of solid wood, often fruitwood, complemented by decoratively turned columns. The press mechanism consists of a threaded screw rod and an upper crank handle, both made of cast iron. The central container cylinder is made of metal, specifically tinned sheet metal or brass. The press was used for mechanically extracting juices from fruits, berries, and herbs. It was also utilized for preparing homemade cheeses and pressing meat juices, for example, in the traditional preparation of the French duck specialty called 'pressed duck'. It is a pharmaceutical pressing or pâté mold with versatile application in households and smaller establishments.
