Description: A vessel known as a 'věrtel,' designed for measuring the volume of loose materials. It is made of steel sheet metal, reinforced with metal strapping, and equipped with a vertical handle featuring a turned wooden grip. Historically, the věrtel was used for measuring grains, seeds, or feed for draft animals, such as horses. On the side of the vessel, an Austrian calibration mark in the form of a Habsburg double-headed eagle is embossed, set in a lead or brass seal. This mark confirmed the official inspection of weights and measures, guaranteeing the precisely prescribed volume of the vessel. Without this verification, the věrtel was not permitted for use in markets or commercial transactions. The depiction of the eagle dates the vessel to the period of the Austrian, or rather Austro-Hungarian, monarchy, most commonly the 19th or early 20th century. Currently, the věrtel is primarily used for decorative or collecting purposes.
