Description: This graphic print depicts a veduta of Old Town Square in Prague, dominated by the Church of Our Lady before Týn. The depiction captures the genre atmosphere of the square with figural staffage in front of the Týn Church and the adjacent block of houses. It is an etching on paper, matted and framed in wood. The author is the renowned Czech graphic artist and painter Jan Charles Vondrouš (1884–1970). The signature is located in the bottom right below the print area and reads "J.C. Vondrouš". The work is dated to 1925. Vondrouš was one of the leading representatives of Czech modern graphic art of the 20th century, studied in the USA, and became famous for his architectural vedutas and cityscapes from Prague, Venice, or New York. The work is characterized by delicate detailing of architecture and sovereign line work typical of Vondrouš's interwar period oeuvre. The mat shows moisture stains. The wooden frame has minor abrasions. The paper backing on the reverse side is partially torn and reinforced with adhesive tape.
