Description: A forged iron gutter axe with a long handle and a characteristic crescent-shaped blade with side "wings" that limit the depth of cut. It was used for hollowing out concave surfaces in the production of wooden troughs, cradles, saddles, or other hollowed shapes. A traditional craftsman's tool, probably from the 19th century.
