Description: The brass production plate features a logo: three intertwined fish arranged in a circle, which is the historical trademark of the renowned Czech company J. VOLMAN from Čelákovice, founded by Josef Volman. The label also contains data: FAB. NO 12762 (production number), COM. NO 31124 (order number), CAT. NO 48 (catalogue number) and DAT. 15 2 08 (production date, February 15, 1908). This is a pillar drill designed for flat belt drive. Machines of this type from the early 20th century were often connected in workshops to a central overhead distribution system, known as a transmission, powered by a steam engine or a large electric motor. Multi-step pulleys, or cones, are located at the top of the drill. These pulleys allowed for changing the gear ratio and regulating the drill bit speed by shifting the belt between different steps. The power from the upper pulleys is transmitted by a horizontal shaft which, via bevel gears, drives a vertical spindle with a chuck. Manual feed of the drill bit into the material is ensured by a side lever. The work table is adjustable; it can be moved up and down along the main column, allowing for height adjustment for drilling various objects.
