Description: Faience inkwell with hand-painted floral decor and the French inscription “Deux lignes de l’écriture d’un homme suffisent pour le faire pendre” (“Two lines of a man's writing are enough to get him hanged”). The inkwell has a removable ink insert and a lid, the decor is complemented by yellow and green motifs. This is an example of 19th-century French faience, where satirical or moralizing inscriptions often appeared.
