Description: This decorative faience plate from the famous French manufactory Sarreguemines is another collectible piece from the monarchical series, this time featuring a portrait of King Louis XIV. The center of the plate, set against a deep blue background, captures a detailed portrait of the 'Sun King' in a typical Baroque periwig, bordered by the Latin inscription 'LUDOVICUS MAGNUS • DEI • GRATIA • FRANCORUM • REX • CHRISTIANISSIMUS • 1643 - 1715'. The richly decorated rim, with motifs of weapons, banners, and heraldic lilies, stylistically follows the previous piece. The reverse side bears an underglaze Sarreguemines inscription mark, a fine network of craquelure in the glaze, and is fitted with a wire spring hanger for wall mounting.
