Description: Decorative plate from the production of August Nowotny's porcelain factory in Stará Role near Karlovy Vary (Altrohlau bei Karlsbad), dating from the period 1838–1884. The plate is adorned with a rich blue underglaze transfer print featuring motifs of roses, other flowers, leaves, and small birds. The prominent ornament is concentrated primarily around the rim, leaving a lighter central area, thus creating an impressive contrast typical of 19th-century decorative earthenware. The factory mark August Nowotny – Altrohlau – Karlsbad and other blue production markings are preserved on the underside. The glaze exhibits prominent overall crazing and, in places, natural discoloration and signs of use consistent with its age.
