Description: This decorative fine earthenware (faience fine) plate originates from the French manufactory Choisy-le-Roi from the early 19th century. The plate is adorned with a black and white transfer print depicting a detailed scene from the Napoleonic Wars period. The scene captures an episode concerning officers with the text: REICHER, Caporal de la 27me Brigade, sauve son Chef de Bataillon qui s'épuisoit à prouesses héroiques. (English: REICHER, corporal of the 27th brigade, saves his battalion chief who was exhausting himself with heroic deeds.) Transfer printing was a typical style for historical plates produced in Choisy during this period, highlighting the period's earthenware manufacturing technique. Plates from this series represent collector's items that illustrate key historical events or military stories and offer insight into the contemporary depiction of history. The rim of the plate is highlighted in yellow. The mark MON DÉPOSÉ (English: MY REGISTERED) is embossed on the back of the plate.
